MIAMI - Tropical Storm Miriam is nearing hurricane strength in the Pacific Ocean, but it poses no immediate threat to land.
Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center in Miami said Miriam was about 470 miles (756 kilometers) south of the southern tip of Baja California. The storm has winds of 70 mph (113 kph) and is moving west at about 10 mph (16 kph).
Miriam is expected to become a hurricane Sunday night with winds of at least 74 mph (119 kph).
In the open Atlantic, Tropical Storm is meandering far from land with winds of about 60 mph (97 kph).
