Hurricane Kirk has strengthened and is expected to remain over the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean during the weekend, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said in an advisory issued early Friday.
No coastal watches or warnings were in effect, the center said.
The storm was about 835 miles (1,345 kilometers) east of Bermuda, with maximum sustained winds of about 105 miles per hour, and was moving north-northwest at 12 mph as of 5 a.m. AST (0900 GMT) Friday, the center said.
"The forecast track keeps Kirk over the open waters of the North Atlantic during the next two days," it said.
The center separately said Tropical Storm Leslie had strengthened more, with maximum winds near 65 mph, and was about 940 miles east of the Leeward Islands and moving west-northwest at about 16 mph. The storm "could become a hurricane later today or tonight," the center said.
