The massive magnitude 8.8 earthquake that struck the west coast of Chile last month moved the entire city of Concepcion at least 10 feet to the west, and shifted other parts of South America as far apart as the Falkland Islands and Fortaleza, Brazil.

Thursday September 27th - Robert Loux, Executive Director of the Nevada Agency for Nuclear Projects, which is a branch of the Office of the Governor of the State of Nevada. We will discuss the recent earthquake faults found underneath the Yucca Mountain nuclear project. Nuclear Article:http://earthchangesmedia.com/secure/3247.326/article-9162518844.php
Tuesday October 2nd - Sebastian Honig, PhD (candidate) in astronomy at the Max-Planck-Institute for Radio-astronomy (Bonn, Germany). Sebastian is the "finder" of the recent SOHO first ever video 'periodic comet'. Hoenig realized that the two comets were so similar in orbit that they might actually be the same object. To test his theory, he calculated a combined orbit for the comet, and consequently predicted that it would return on 11 September 2007. Sebastian's prediction proved to be extremely accurate - the comet reappeared in SOHO's LASCO camera right on schedule, and has now been given the official designation of P/2007 R5 (SOHO). Thursday October 4th - Professor Peter Schultz - Dr. Schultz is a Planetary Geology, Brown University and NASA contractor. He is the lead scientist in the recent released study indicating a massive asteroid impact occurred approximately 12,900 years ago. Dr. Schultz is a leading expert in the study of celestial impact cratering on Venus and Earth; experimental studies of impact processes; volcanic and tectonic modification of impact craters; evolution of martian surface processes. Tuesday October 9th - Dr. Harry Y. McSween - NASA lead scientist of 'DAWN' mission. Dr. McSween is the co-investigator on the Dawn mission, which will orbit and study two of the largest asteroids, Vesta and Ceres. The asteroids are distinct: Vesta is differentiated, and is the parent body for many achondritic meteorites; Ceres is primitive, and may experienced aqueous alteration processes. We have recently determined a new method of interpreting element ratios to be measured by the gamma ray/neutron detector on Dawn, by comparison to HED meteorites thought to be derived from Vesta. Thursday October 11th - Lucy McFadden - NASA "Deep Impact" and "Dawn" Mission Scientist. Lucy is an Associate Research Scientist for the University of Maryland Astronomy Department and an expert on reflectance spectroscopy. She has published many papers in professional journals and books, held several elected positions and committee appointments, and is the recipient of multiple awards. Tuesday September 4th - Dr. Yoshifumi Futaana - Dr. Futaana is a member of the Swedish Institute of Space Physics of which studies the Sun - Earth Connection. Recent observations suggest that solar flares on the far side of the Sun can still impact the space weather of planets not in their direct line of sight. This is something that scientists had only speculated before now.
Thursday September 6th - Professor Louise Harra - Professor Harra is currently a professor of solar physics at UCL Mullard Space Science Laboratory. Harra's main areas of research are solar flares, coronal mass ejections, active region heating. She is a UK PI for the EIS instrument on the Japan/US/UK space mission, Hinode which was launched successfully on 22nd September 2006. Also a honorary professor of the Solar Magnetism and Activity Group at the National Astronomical Observatories in Beijing.
Tuesday September 11th - Professor Shamita Das - She is a seismologist who received her doctorate at MIT in 1976. Das research in earthquake studies has been conducted in several broad areas of observational and theoretical seismology over the last three decades. The major goal of the work is to understand the physics of the earthquake preparation and faulting process, and to predict expected motion at sites of engineering interest (the built environment) due to large earthquakes.
Thursday September 13th - Dr. J. Marvin Herndon - Geophysicist J. Marvin Herndon, is the proponent of a radical theory about Earth's core and its relationship to Earth's magnetic field, the shield that protects our planet's animal and plant life from the Sun's radiation. According to Herndon, at the center of Earth there is a naturally occurring nuclear - fission reactor, five miles in diameter, that provides the energy needed to generate and sustain the geomagnetic field.

Tuesday September 18th - Professor Marc R. Lessard - He has worked as a research associate at the Institute for Space Research in Calgary, Canada, and as a research project engineer at the UNH Space Science Center. He is a member of the American Geophysical Union and Sigma Xi's Scientific Research Society. He is the author and co-author of numerous publications on experimental space plasma physics, measurements and analysis of auroral phenomena, and rocket-borne and ground-based instruments. His teaching interests include satellite systems and dynamics, analog and digital electronics, and instilling new insights about nature, life, science, and their interconnectedness.
