Sunspot Region 1515 and 1520 Likely to Produce X-Class Flares

The main source of current solar activity has been sunspot region 1515. It is now rotating around the Sun's western limb. However, there is a good chance it will continue to produce flare activity along its journey to the backside of the Sun. It appears region 1520 has the make-up to take 1515's place.

Geomagnetic activity continues due to July 7th X-class flare and following CME (coronal mass ejection). Yesterday's (July 8th) M6.9 flare is expected to hit the Earth's magnetic field within the next 24 hours and will likely keep geomagnetic activity at enhanced levels.

The link below shows July 7th and 8th solar flares and CMEs. Watch for continued extreme weather events over the next 72 hours.
