Sunspot Region 1515 Fires Off X-Class Flare

Sunspot region 1515 was the source of a July 6th X1.1 flare with peak time at 23:08 UT. A CME (coronal mass ejection) was released towards the southwest of the Sun which may just present a glancing blow to Earth.

Satellite data shows a EUV (extreme ultraviolet) wave associated to this event. Due to region 1515 is near the western limb of the Sun, elevated proton fluxes have occurred setting off a geomagnetic storm now in progress.

Equation:

Sunspots => Solar Flares (charged particles) => Magnetic Field Shift => Shifting Ocean and Jet Stream Currents => Extreme Weather and Human Disruption (mitch battros 1998 updated 2012).

Watch for continued elevated activity from regions 1518, 1517 and 1515 which may also produce X-class events. Also watch for continued outbreaks of extreme weather in the north hemisphere.
