June 2000 Astrology Report

Copyright May 2000 by Roxana Muise

This month: 1 Retrograde station, a new and a full Moon, 1 planetary conjunction, 3 planetary oppositions, 3 planetary ingresses, and the summer solstice.

The month begins with an emphasis on cooperative energies between thought and feelings. Between June 16 and 19, strong, potent energy is available that allows integration of growth, beauty and value, thoughtfulness, nurturing and protective behavior. For most of the month, there is still a bit of fragmented dynamism that has kept people on edge, although now people are more able to talk about it. That eccentric force will pull together between June 20 and 29, and spontaneous behavior will be prevalent. The month ends with the emphasis on nurturing and communication, though that itch that can’t be scratched may be back. Uranus and Neptune are retracing their steps all summer, and the new ideas and values previously identified will command your attention. You will be treated to a different perspective during June.

Astrological Notation (Unless otherwise noted, Pacific Daylight Time is used.)

6/1 Sun opposition Pluto, 1:32 Gemini/Sagittarius 11:15 AM A transformational situation that began back in December 1999 may seem to come to fruition at this time, however there is more to come. Mid August should bring some resolution, if you are willing to stay focused now on the values that were emphasized in May.

6/2 New Moon, 12:15 Gemini, west coast 5:14 AM; east coast 8:14 AM This month’s window for beginning new tasks or projects is dependent on the communication of ideas, and the process of releasing that which no longer serves you. It’s important to heal breaches in relationships before you start anything new. There are challenges that may be overcome by acting quickly on something that you have been waiting for. West coast circumstances deal with personal projects that are no longer dependent on others. Those on the east coast can work well in seclusion or in secret. Assistance may appear from talented people, colleagues or employees. Be sure to communicate your appreciation.

6/3 Venus opposition Pluto, 11:28 Gemini/Sagittarius 1:28 PM More emphasis on identifying what you want out of life may be encouraged. Letting go of the old involves applying healing energies to any wounds previously incurred during the process. If what you want is the same as it was in the past, new cycles may bring manifestation in a new form.

6/4 Sun opposition Chiron, 14:08 Gemini/Sagittarius 4:17 AM The need for healing is great, and opportunities for growth and development through connections with past experiences can open up possibilities in the future. Utilizing alternative methods for therapeutic or remedial conditions may bring success.

6/11 Sun conjunction Venus, 20:48 Gemini 3:31 AM Shine some light on your favorite activities. Put energy into enjoying pursuits that give you pleasure and that support your self-esteem.

6/16 Mars enters Cancer, 5:30 AM A time of emotional instability begins. The urge for creativity will be strong, and many will feel an intense interest in family activities or sexual conquests. Impulsive actions may supplant normally cautious behavior. Full Moon, 26:02 Sagittarius/Gemini, west coast 3:26 PM; east coast 6:26 PM Synchronicity is at hand. You may find yourself in exactly the right place and time to apply your special talents or abilities, when all you want to do is to be anonymous or in the background. To coordinate between spiritual, emotional, and physical levels, maintain a conscious connection with the present moment and be prepared to make final adjustments before reaping the rewards of your project. Stay in the present moment. Pay attention to immediate goals, being aware of where those goals may lead in the future. West coast pursuits may involve educational trips, vacation plans, or end of school responsibilities. East coast conditions may spark spontaneous personal transformations that result from interactions with others.

6/18 Venus enters Cancer, 3:15 PM An emphasis on nurturing – both others and the self – can bring about a boost in self-esteem, and unite your desires with the motivation and impetus to fulfill them. To achieve what you want, you must first believe that you are worthy. What others perceive as shortcomings might just be one of your most valuable strengths.

6/20 Summer solstice, west coast 6:48 PM; east coast 9:48 PM At this pivotal point in the year, many issues will reach crisis proportions. As the Sun enters close proximity to Venus and Mars, the intensity grows awesome. The spiritual component may offer relief. Most religions and belief systems have rituals or customs that support individuals during life changes. West coast environment sets the stage for activity within peer relationships. On the east coast issues regarding health, service, or understanding the meaning of your life’s design.

6/21 Venus conjunct Mars, 3:32 Cancer 12:27 PM Here we are at the apex of another life cycle! The joining of Venus’ yearning for fulfillment with Mars’ eagerness to accomplish it. The last conjunction at 19 Cancer had a Scorpio ambiance, which kept the dream private, whereas the current one is the pure essence of cardinal water. Those who are passionate about what they want in life can put this energy in motion to begin to realize their aspirations.

6/23 Mercury stationary retrograde, 19:57 Cancer, 1:27 AM Just when you thought the forward momentum was in gear, the trickster asks you to take a look behind the scenes. You may think that Mercury is injecting doubt into the equation just for fun, but the intricate dance these three planets are doing throughout the first week in August will bring key issues to the fore, so don your dancing shoes and join in the rhythm. By the time the dance is completed, you are sure to be the wiser for it.

6/30 Jupiter enters Gemini, 12:36 AM Important understandings will occur when communication is based on principle, and we are able to avoid getting mired in the details of an issue. This doesn’t happen automatically, but requires you to stay focused on basics. Great ideas can be created if you avoid exaggerations and keep to your principles.

June Symbolism

June is named after Juno, the Roman mother goddess (Hera in Greek mythology). Juno was the patroness of women and marriage and the guardian of money and wealth, and was honored at the midsummer harvest. In Christian symbolism June is the month that honors the Blessed Madonna.

June is traditionally the month of weddings. It was believed that a woman married in June would always be considered a bride. A June wedding brought a baby born at the spring equinox, when the cold of winter was waning. Wedding rings were put on the fourth finger because the ancients believed that finger contained a nerve going straight to the heart. As it turns out, the heart meridian has a pressure point at the junction between the ring finger and the little finger, marking the place where a wedding ring is worn.

The moonstone and the pearl are associated with June. Both are symbolically linked with the Moon. If a moonstone is held under the tongue when the Moon is full, it is said to enhance one’s ability to perceive the future. The Moonstone is also associated with the third eye; it brings clarity to spiritual quests and helps in guiding departed souls through the astral realm. Wearing a Moonstone is said to cleanse the lymph system. The Pearl is the symbol of transmutation. An organic gem, it is symbolic of turning irritation or aggravation into mastery and value. Wearing pearls is said to balance the emotions and increase peace of mind. Pearls are said to absorb toxins. After wearing, to cleanse the pearls, rinse with salt water, and gently dry with a soft cloth.

June first is the Christian feast of the Ascension of Christ (the 40th day after Easter). It also marks the ancient festival of Carna (also called Cardea), the goddess of hinges. When invoked, she opened what was closed, and closed what was open. She was the protector of Roman homes and the domestic activities of the family. June is the "hinge of the year" (which is another term for the summer solstice). The hinge is the doorway to the inner realms. Swinging on a swing was part of a ritual to encourage the growth of crops. Ancient Roman farmers hung balls, masks and small images of human figures, called oscilla, on trees or in doorways to swing in the wind.

The summer Solstice is also known as the Wiccan Sabbat, Litha, one of the four solar points of the year. In the Christian tradition it is celebrated as the feast of St. John the Baptist. In medieval times, burning torches were carried in a sunwise direction around buildings, gardens and fields to ensure good fortune. This Solstice is dedicated to the mother goddesses in all the cultural mythic stories, The summer Solstice is also the time of the Islamic new year; indeed, in many cultures it is a time of sanctification.

The Lunar calendar is shared by Hebrews, Moslems and Pagans, and overlaps the Solar calendar which Hebrews, Pagans, and most of the western cultures also share. The full Moon of June is known as the Celtic Oak Moon, the Wiccan Dyad Moon, and the Pagan Rose Moon (about which is said "Everything she touches – changes).

The phases of the Moon can be recognized by remembering the following verse published in "A Millennium Primer" by Tim Clark and the editors of The Old Farmer’s Almanac:

The new Moon will rise –

In the eastern skies

At dawn it climbs with the Sun –

A new lunar month begun.

The first quarter will rise –

In the bright eastern skies

On the horizon at noon –

Waxing as a pale half Moon.

The full Moon will rise –

In the eastern skies

Starting the show at twilight –

To reign as the queen of night.

The last quarter will rise –

In the dark eastern skies

At midnight it will appear –

As the waning days are here.
