December
provides an environment for 5 conjunctions, 2 oppositions, 5 ingresses,
a full Moon, a new Moon Eclipse, and one square. Six of these
15 aspects deal directly with Mercury, and the full Moon is in
Mercury’s sign. For the second month in a row, Mercury tests us
continually in every level of consciousness. The month begins
with fragmented but intense energy, with emotional flow moving
quickly and abruptly from one issue to another. Stability fluctuates
with exaggeration until just after the Solstice, when the new
and avant-garde becomes the rule rather than the exception.
12/2 Mercury
opposition Saturn 6:07 AM, 26:31 Scorpio/Taurus Conjecture
fills our consciousness, as deep philosophical discussions ensue.
What we want, and how we go about achieving those desires gains
allies from contacts from the past and promises for the future.
12/3 Mercury
enters Sagittarius 12:26 PM
Reason
through visionary contemplation conflicts with emotional challenges.
The search for diversity and the need for stability may join through
logical assessments.
12/4 Sun
conjunction Pluto 6:02 AM, 12:44 Sagittarius
Illumination
and transformation of values may come about through dramatic and
unusual circumstances. Emotional challenges continue.
12/6 Mercury
opposition Jupiter 5:10 PM, 4:57 Sagittarius/Taurus
Even
though they oppose each other, they are in mutual reception. Resolution
to conflict through cooperation becomes possible. Pragmatism and
principle seek common ground, which can be done without settling
for half-measures. Clear communication and mature judgment using
spiritual values can provide success. Opportunities abound in
many areas of life.
12/8 Venus
enters Aquarius 12:49 AM
New
values may be identified and acknowledged, although it may take
some time for them to be embraced. Spiritual awareness of consequences
resulting from conflicts may become apparent, now.
12/11 Full
Moon 19:38 Gemini, west coast 1:03 AM; east coast 4:03 AM
Dramatic
and unusual circumstances surround us, as we gather the harvest
of our past actions. West coast environment brings difficulties
in direct action; but negotiation with neutral parties can provide
acceptable solutions. East coast surroundings show the need to
merge personal values with those of others. The results of cooperative
communication can bring surprising benefits.
Mercury
conjunction Pluto 10:11 PM, 13:02 Sagittarius
Transformation
of viewpoints is possible if egos are controlled. New awarenesses
of the application of new values are possible through inner guidance.
Keep promises that you have made to others, for karmic effects
can surface, now. Watch for ways to release grudges that may keep
you in unwanted patterns.
12/12 Venus
conjunction Neptune 1:24 AM, 4:41 Aquarius
Imaginative
solutions to personal dilemmas are possible by building on your
own strengths, and sticking to the world models that best serve
you and others. This is a time for visualizing your fondest dreams,
and then taking steps to make them come true.
12/21 Winter
Solstice, Sun enters Capricorn, west coast 5:38 AM, east coast
8:38 AM
Old
ways of communication are not the most optimal as we turn from
the dark part of the year, and see the signs of the Sun’s return.
Build your strength on solid values, and opportunities to get
what you want for your future life will open up. On the west coast,
it is a time to plan for expansion in cooperation with partners
and peers. East coast natives may need to work from behind the
scenes, in concert with family members or parents.
12/22 Mercury
enters Capricorn 6:03 PM
This
is a good time to bring loose ends together to cement ties that
bring people towards a harmonious future. Many adjustments need
to be made in order to fulfill the potential growth and expansion
that has been planned. Challenges can be constructive in planning
to implement ideals. Watch out for illusions, as they can prolong
a lack of awareness and conscious action.
12/23 Mars
enters Scorpio 6:38 AM
Opportunities
can arise from organizations or organized individuals that support
Transformative projects. Strong energy for prolonged jobs and
projects is available. Answers are available if you learn to quiet
your mind and ask for inner guidance.
Venus
conjunction Uranus 9:51 PM, 18:17 Aquarius
New
ideas and values of an unusual nature may be challenged by traditional
structures. Many adjustments must be made and transformational
opportunities are available to support your project.
12/25 Solar
Eclipse, New Moon 4:14 Capricorn, west coast 9:22 AM, east coast
12:22 PM
New
beginnings are possible if old, outmoded patterns are first released.
Be careful with communication, making sure that principles are
honored, and necessary adjustments are made. Many projects and
tasks can be accomplished with unconventional methods, if both
participants are in agreement. West coast venue needs privacy
to accomplish goals – be careful not to confuse privacy with secrecy.
East coast environment combines working with authority and implementing
stable philosophies. Reputations will be tested. Talents and personal
resources may be overextended in some areas, and expanded in others.
Sun
conjunction Mercury 11:23 AM, 4:19 Capricorn
This
aspect is an integral part of the eclipse energy. Keep in mind
that the Mercury within each of us is constantly analyzing and
evaluating our evolutionary processes to help keep us on the straight
and narrow. Sometimes that little "voice within" has
a hard time being heard.
12/29 Venus
square Saturn 2:35 PM, 24:41 Aquarius/Taurus
The
ultimate test of your values deals with a challenge between your
nurturing and protective powers. Challenges to your understanding,
dealing with conscious awareness of what you have learned in the
past 20 months about your values, talents, ideas about ownership,
your quality of life – will arise to be dealt with.
DECEMBER
SYMBOLISM
December,
originally named for the tenth month in the Roman calendar, was
dedicated to Decima, goddess of birth, and Vesta, the goddess
of virtue, purity, and the fire of the hearth. This honored the
sanctity of the home by making every household a shrine to the
goddess.
December
6 is St. Nicholas's Day. St. Nicholas was bishop of Myra in Lycia,
Asia Minor, during the fourth century. He's credited with saving
three sisters from lives of ill repute by throwing bags of gold
into their house (some say down the chimney, some say through
the window) to provide for their dowries. This story has its roots
in the myths of the three Fates, also known as the Moirae or Norns.
December
has two gemstones: Turquoise, one of the first mined gems, found
in arid and semiarid lands – desert environments. Color ranges
from green to blue. A 3rd century myth states that
turquoise is said to protect a rider from falling off his or her
horse. American Indians believe turquoise takes its blue from
Heaven, its green from Earth. Traditionally, the turquoise is
a stone of success and prosperity.
Zircon
is sometimes called the "imitation" diamond. In ancient
times, it was worn to heal disease, and to bring sound sleep.
In 14th century Europe, it was worn to protect the
wearer from the black plague. Zircons come in many different colors;
the most prized being red. The red of the Zircon and the Green
of the Turquoise remind us of Christmas colors.
December
houses the celebration of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin
Mary December 8. Mme. Blavatsky reminds us that She is not original
with the Church of Rome, but is remembered in every culture, including
the early Christian Collyridians, who made sacrificing cakes to
honor the Virgin goddess. She is also known as the Mayan Mother
and the Virgin of Guadalupe in Mexican lore.
The
annual Geminids meteor shower (named so because it seems to spring
from the constellation Gemini) is one of the best celestial shows
of the year. These streaks of light peak in the heavens this year
in the northwest around 1 AM on December 14th. Meteor
showers have been looked upon as harbingers of disaster, as well
as hosts of angelic beings who come regularly to help the peoples
of the Earth through difficult times.
Hanukkah
(Chanukah), the Jewish Holiday of Lights is an eight-day celebration
of hope and faith that begins at sundown on December 21st. It
is a time used to reaffirm beliefs and to be thankful for successes
and achievements. The lights of astrology: the Sun and the Moon
support the integration of personal ideals into practical, every-day
living.
Christmas,
the celebration of the nativity of the Christ Child, further symbolizes
the hope of new beginnings and the return of the light to the
world, and the gift of Life.
Winter
Solstice, or Yule is associated with the completion of the out
breath of the year; the pause of midwinter; the longest night
of the year. Yule, celebrated by the ancient Goths at the time
of the winter solstice in honor of the Sun, and by the ancient
Norse (Iul – meaning wheel) as the beginning of the Great Wheel
of the Zodiac, the Wheel of Life, at the time of the turning point
when the Sun was reborn to the world. The Yule log, cut traditionally
from the ash-tree Yggdrasil, (the world-tree, whose roots were
knotted in Hell and its boughs supported Heaven) this Tree of
Life sheltered the Norns, who lovingly tended the tree: Urth (the
past), Verdandi (the present), and Skuld (the future). The twelve
days of Yule (December 26-January 6) assign 4 days to each of
the Norns to honor the turning of the year. New Year’s day, the
middle of this period has become a day when we remember the past
and plan for the future, making resolutions to better our lives,
and invoking the assistance of these triune sister goddesses.
Join me in
reciting a Mantra for the turn of the year:
I
offer Praise and Thanksgiving for the blessings of the past year!
I
offer Praise and Thanksgiving for the blessings of the now!
I
offer Praise and Thanksgiving for the blessings on their way to
me!
