In
March, the transiting aspects, also known as cosmic events
include five squares, three conjunctions, two retrograde
stations, two ingresses, and a New and a Full Moon. Six
of these events involve Mercury. So, expect March to be
filled with interactive communication processes. Mercury's
mental dynamic primarily forms a moving base to a dancing
T-square, beginning with strong edicts of unusual intensity,
shifting at mid-month to the master negotiator, and challenging
everyone involved in appropriate measure. "Facts" continue
to be in the eye of the beholder, with variable dynamics
governing all negotiations. Continuing as the focus of all
energies, Uranus brings out the unusual and the disruptive
in all ventures. Unexpected changes abound. Five Plutonian
events manifest as an undercurrent of the extreme and the
radical.
3/5 Sun
squares Pluto: 15:14 Pisces/Sagittarius, 10:11 AM. Expect
many power struggles in the pursuit of accomplishment, some
will find value in the dramatic, or opportunities through
creative writing or poetry. Take care not to over-extend
your energies.
3/8 Venus
turns stationary retrograde: 17:44 Aries, 5:05 PM. There
is a need to be loved for one's perception of who (s)he
is. There might be a chance encounter with an important
person from your past. It may take on the feeling a fated
interaction, but may not last beyond the end of May. Even
so, a lot can be learned from such a temporary relationship.
3/9
Full Moon: 19:12 Virgo/Pisces, 9:23 AM west coast; 12:23
PM east coast. That which had its beginning two weeks
ago at the new Moon may, through previous hard work and
many sudden shifts and revisions may now come to fruition.
However, there may still be a bumpy ride ahead, with expansion
and contraction involving conditions beyond the control
of individuals. West coast conditions most likely depend
on the supportive energy of like-minded groups or investors;
east coast conditions involve travel connections or communications
based on insight and foreknowledge. Do your homework.
3/10 Mercury
conjuncts Uranus: 22:27 Aquarius, 1:51 AM. The two tricksters
are together in the same degree. Be ready for anything!
Expect unusual incidents. Order and tradition will be challenged,
and limits will be pushed. Karmic debts will fall due. Unreasonable
and irresponsible acts will not go unexcused.
3/13 Mercury
squares Saturn: 26:07 Aquarius/Taurus, 2:30 PM. The
Moon's Scorpio position creates a T-square. Revisiting last
month's dynamic balancing act, feelings of caution and concern
for loyalty may keep hopes under wraps. Uncovering secrets
and previously unavailable information can contribute to
attitudes of growing confidence.
3/16 Mercury
enters Pisces: 10:05 PM. Moving out of shadow and into
the light of reason, mental and communication processes
may feel free from past patterns, but they need to be tempered
with practicality and compassion. Some may feel inundated
with new ideas. Growth can begin through the application
of excellence and elegance.
3/1/7 Pluto
turns stationary retrograde: 15:17 Sagittarius, 6:36 PM.
Demonstrations of force may occur. Concealed power plays
may be accidentally revealed. Inner transformations are
likely to occur, and are supported by the universe for those
who search for truth.
3/18 Mars
conjuncts Pluto retrograde: 15:17 Sagittarius, 3:45 AM.
High energy contributes to accomplishing difficult tasks.
Feelings of indestructibility can be deceptive, and overconfidence
may bring unforeseen difficulties and may destroy previous
plans.
3/20 Sun
enters Aries: west coast 5:31 AM; east coast 8:31 AM.
Spring equinox is a time of renewal. This year the Sun is
in a special mode that supports the growth of personal consciousness.
This can prompt the experience of isolation, or of inner
joy. West coast processes deal with personal contemplation
and awakenings; east coast conditions are associated with
groups of like minded people, or with personal perspectives
of spiritual teachings.
3/21 Mercury
squares Jupiter: 5:55 Pisces/Gemini, 11:41 AM. Psychic
ability is sometimes comparable to common sense and experience.
Whatever term suits you, this facility is sharpened now.
This can be seen as a gift of recognizing truth, or a fearful
curse. Solid grounding can be beneficial - a respected confidant
or unswerving foundational beliefs are invaluable.
3/24 New
Moon: 4:28 Aries, 5:21 PM west coast; 8:21 PM east coast.
This is truly a time for new beginnings. Different life
directions can converge into a great adventure. Sharing
of sorrows and joys can bring strength to relationships.
West coast processes deal with peer relationships; east
coast situations involve speculation or renewal.
3/27 Mercury
squares Pluto retrograde: 15:15 Pisces/Sagittarius, 10:28
PM. The art of persuasion can be honed to a fine edge.
Criticism can be used as a tool or a weapon. Take care to
be conscious of how you use your influence. Without ethical
consideration, serious backlashes can occur.
3/21 Sun
conjuncts Venus retrograde: 9:32 Aries, 8:16 PM. Now
there is an opportunity to share your inner joy, or to find
someone to dispel the feelings of isolation. Active imagination
and an ability to contact higher realms of spiritual consciousness
can bring about great awarenesses. Awarenesses happen in
least expected ways.
3/31 Mercury
squares Mars: 20:33 Pisces/Sagittarius, 7:36 AM. The
final link of the dancing T-square manifests as crisis in
action. Impulsiveness in actions or in speaking can undermine
previous thoughtful plans. Quickness, dexterity and the
ability to perceive true meanings can bring success, if
ethical behavior is observed. Careful choices made now will
determine future success.
MARCH
SYMBOLISM
March
was named for Mars, the great Roman warrior god,
son of Juno and Jupiter. This was an appropriate association,
for in the ancient world of the Mediterranean, the third
month was known for its violent weather. The inner theme
of March deals with developing wisdom and compassion, and
finding one’s life path. The search for self is associated
with Mars, as it is a process that precludes association
with others. This process is a lonely path, and requires
great stamina and the development of inner strength.
March’s
gemstone is the bloodstone, also known as the heliotrope,
which means the "turning of the Sun." This refers
to the equinoctial passage of the Sun to the Northern Hemisphere.
In the Christian tradition, the bloodstone, deep green jasper
with crimson spots, is symbolic of the blood of the Christ
spilled at Golgotha by a Roman soldier’s spear. The stone
is said to hold a divine power to stop hemorrhaging, and
was widely used in folk medicine to stop nosebleeds and
cure wasting diseases. The bloodstone was employed in rituals
at the time of eclipses to invoke invisibility, and was
used by Pliny, the Elder as a mirror with which to safely
view Solar eclipses. The stone was used as an amulet by
the Gnostics to prolong life, and in thumb rings (the Mars
digit) by the Egyptians, to sustain courage.
The
Spring Equinox is also known as Iduna, or Idunn
(A Scandinavian goddess), the equivalent of the Greek Hebe.
This goddess is the spring symbol of the triple goddess,
and was charged with supplying youth and strength to the
rest of the gods and goddesses, by providing them with the
ambrosia and nectar of immortality. She is the maiden form
of Hera, whose name means "Our Lady", who was the primary
goddess before the advent of patriarchal gods. In the Christian
religion, Our Lady, the Blessed Virgin Mary is venerated
on the March 25th. In the British Church, Lady Day
commemorates the philanthropic works of twelfth century
Lady Mabella Tichborne, who overcame great physical odds
just before her death, to make sure that the poor were annually
provided for. Known as the "Tichborne Dole," her
wishes are carried out to this day. In some of the nature
religions, Invocations are made on March 25th to many of
the major goddesses: e.g., Isis, Venus, Tara, and Persephone,
to bring enlightenment to women regarding their missions
in life. Equinox means "equal night", and is the moment
when the Sun crosses the equator in the juncture between
the dark and light halves of the year, when the days and
nights are equal at the equator. It is the midpoint between
the Solstices (the turning points of the Sun’s yearly motion).
Jewish
festival of Purim begins on the eve of the 14th
day of Adar in their Lunar calendar (March 7, 2001 in the
Solar calendar). It is a joyous time, celebrating Queen
Esther’s victorious intercession in an ancient plot to kill
Persian Jews. The theme of Purim is adherence to the law
in a timely manner to enable the conquest of good over evil.
Christian
symbolism celebrates the number three during the 3rd
month of the year. The Lenten cycle has constant
reminders of the Holy Trinity, such as cloverleaf rolls,
and the lowly pretzel (German for "little arms"),
a tiny three lobed loaf of bread, representing crossed arms.
In the 4th century, one was eaten each day of Lent, as a
symbol of prayer, fasting, and pious works. Salt was added
for grounding and penance.
St
Patrick, a Celt with Roman citizenship, who converted
to Christianity in fifth century Ireland, used the abundant
shamrocks to teach the lessons of the Trinity. St Patrick,
whose death is commemorated on March 17, utilized an ancient
Gaelic invocation called the Lorica, or The Breastplate.
He used it to shape-shift himself and his monks into deer
when they were pursued and persecuted by King Loegaire’s
troops. The Lorica has been used by many over the centuries
as a magical invocation of Divine energy, and reflects the
presumption of astrology throughout early centuries:
St.
Patrick’s Lorica
"I
arise to-day
Through
the strength of heaven;
Light
of Sun,
Radiance
of Moon,
Splendour
of fire,
Speed
of Lightning,
Swiftness
of wind,
Depth
of sea,
Stability
of earth,
Firmness
of rock.
I
arise today
In
acceptance of the Three,
Supported
by the One.
The
Sacred Fire Breath
This
is the third sacred elemental breath of the new millenium,
and is a Solar cleansing initiation that activates all levels
of experience. On March 20th at 5:31 AM PST,
the Sun changes signs from water to fire (Pisces to Aries);
we can release the last outbreath of Solar water and take
in the first breath of Solar fire of the millenium. Facing
east, light a white candle and face the flame. Take a long
slow breath in through the mouth, visualizing such a flame
passing into the solar plexus where it is transformed and
flows into the Heart Center. See it blossom and radiate
throughout the body, turning your aura into a body of pure
Light. Next exhale through the nose, projecting the Light
from your Heart Center. The Light can then be directed to
those who need cleansing. Continue inhaling sacred fire,
and exhaling Light for two more cycles. This is a most powerful
rite, and may be repeated each day at Sunrise, while the
Sun is in Aries.
