Deadly Landslide Hits Nigeria

Discovery Communications Inc.-At least 17 people in southeast Nigeria were killed last weekend in a landslide that left 300 other victims homeless. The slide hit the region of Amakor in Anambra State following incessant torrential rains.

Council official, Peter Adakah, said that the slide was the result of gully erosion and had destroyed a number of buildings, causing millions of dollars worth of damage.

Adakah also reported that other recent landslides in Anambra have killed 22 people, including five victims that were buried alive in a landslide in the region of Achina two weeks ago.
