Folks, this is a rescuers nightmare. While hundreds of rescuers are clearing rubble to save those trapped underneath, five large aftershocks of magnitude 6.0 to 6.5 have occurred. Earthquakes of this size are devastating in themselves. Remember it was only a 5.9 magnitude earthquake that killed close to 100 people in Greece on September 8th. Then on September 13th a 5.8 magnitude earthquake hit Turkey killing thousands.

In Taiwan officials said 1,712 people were dead, more than 4,000 were hurt and almost 3,000 were believed trapped in the rubble. Another 216 were missing, according to the Interior Ministry's disaster management center.

This is perhaps a sign of things to come. Could the US experience more than one mega quake just days apart? I will have Jim Berkland seismologist/geologist, on in a special edition Earth Changes TV show coming up next week.
