Aurora on Halloween?

NASA Space Science News

On October 29th at 0155 UT, NOAA satellites detected a powerful M5-class solar flare erupting from sunspot group 9209. If a coronal mass ejection (CME) accompanied the eruption, as seems likely based on solar radio emissions, there could be geomagnetic activity on Halloween night when the CME might strike Earth's magnetosphere. Coronagraph images from SOHO that will reveal more about the character of the event are temporarily unavailable.
