-- A tremor measuring 3.6 degrees on the open-ended Richter
scale jolted west of Toyserkan in this western province
on Sunday morning. According to the Geophysics Institute
affiliated to Tehran University, the quake occurred at 04:46
hours local time (01:16 hours GMT).
The
quake which was also felt in the provincial capital of Hamedan
caused panic among residents of this city as well. No report
has yet been received on any possible casualty or damage
to property caused by the quake. Another tremor measuring
3.9 degrees on the Richter scale had jolted the western
city of Toyserkan on Saturday November 18. Meanwhile, two
consecutive earthquakes measuring, respectively, 5.9 and
6.3 degrees on the Richter scale which hit the Caspian Sea
area on Saturday night and caused cracks in house walls
in Sari as well as panic among residents of several northern
Iranian cities caused no casualties in Iran.
The
earthquakes whose epicenters were in the Caspian Sea left
a number of dead in the Republic of Azerbaijan. A tremor
measuring 3.6 degrees on the Richter scale also hit the
city of Gremi in the northwestern province of Ardebil on
Saturday morning.
