Tornadoes Skip Across Oklahoma for Second Day

OKLAHOMA CITY (Reuters) - Storms spawned a second day of tornadoes and brief flooding on Sunday in central Oklahoma but left no injuries and little damage, officials said.

Tornado watches were in effect for much of Oklahoma as well as north and central Texas as lines of thunderstorms crossed the region, with the potential of producing twisters at short notice, the National Weather Service said.

Two tornadoes touched down in a field near the town of Ardmore in south-central Oklahoma, but Carter County law enforcement officials said they knew of no injuries or damage.

The storm brought quarter-sized hail and heavy rains that caused flooding in the town of Norman, just south of Oklahoma City. The flooding stalled cars on roads and swept one car off the street into a ditch. No injuries were reported. Mike Foster, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Norman, said the storm that produced the tornadoes was still rotating at 5:45 p.m. CDT (6:45 p.m. EDT) so could generate new twisters.

``At the present time, we have two reports of tornadoes having touched down, but I don't believe that's complete. We are still issuing tornado warnings,'' Foster said.

``That particular storm continues to be strong and exhibit tornadic potential,'' he said.

Two short-lived tornadoes touched down on Saturday in rural western Oklahoma but caused no substantial damage.
