Rare Earthquake Hits Arkansas

The following is from the United States Geological Survey, National Earthquake Information Center: Preliminary hypocenter for earthquake of 2001 May 04, ARKANSAS, about 15 miles (25 km) NE of Conway, Arkansas: latitude 35.2 degrees north, longitude 92.2 degrees west, origin time 06 42 12.5 utc, depth shallow, magnitude 4.4. The magnitude and location may be revised when additional data and further analysis results are available. The earthquake was felt widely in central Arkansas. No reports of structural damage have been received at this time.
