GREENBRIER,
Ark. (AP)--A small earthquake shook people awake in Arkansas and southern Missouri
early Friday, though there were no initial reports of damage.
The National
Earthquake Information Center reported the earthquake had a preliminary magnitude
of 4.4. It struck at 1:42 a.m. and was centered near Greenbrier, about 30 miles
north of Little Rock.
``There have been no reports of damage,'' said Jim
Harris, a spokesman for Gov. Mike Huckabee who spoke with the state Office of
Emergency Services. ``Arkansans were shaken, but not stirred.''
The center
was about 100 miles west of where the New Madrid fault cuts through northeast
Arkansas.
On Thursday, a 2.5-magnitude earthquake was centered near Mountain
Home along the Arkansas-Missouri border. |
