Well that
didn't take long. The Mars Exploration Rover (or MER), which
is actually two vehicles that are designed to study the
Martian environment, is scheduled for launch about
a year from now in 2003. The two rovers are targeted to
land on two separate parts of Mars in early 2004.
Dr. Peter
H. Smith, a scientist at the University of Arizona Lunar
and Planetary Laboratory in Tucson, whose IMP camera was
perhaps the most publicly notable success story in the Mars
Pathfinder mission several years ago. Dr. Smith is one of
more than two dozen scientists who will participate on the
next NASA mission to Mars. Smith states "dust is the defining
feature of the atmosphere, much like water and the hydrological
cycle is the major force in Earth's atmosphere. Like water
on Earth, dust is the major force eroding the surface of
Mars."
Smith
along with other scientists will be looking at the dust
cycle on Mars. "Not much is known about the dust on Mars,"
Smith said. "We'll be looking at how dust piles up on surfaces,
how it accumulates and how it gets off of surfaces." Gee,
Dr. Smith, can you say "asteroid hit".
It was
just one year ago, June 6th 2001, we witnessed the largest
dust storm ever recorded on Mars. It circled the entire
planet. Scientist have come forward such as Dr. Tom VanFlandren,
former director of the US Naval Observatory and current
contractor with NASA, stating "it could have only been done
by an asteroid hit".
NASA officials
say the MER mission science objectives include: (1) study
rocks and soils for clues to past water activity; (2)
investigate landing sites that have a high probability of
containing evidence of the action of liquid water; (3) determine
the
distribution and composition of minerals, rocks and soils
surrounding the landing sites; (4) determine the nature
of local surface geologic processes; (5) calibrate
and validate data from orbiting missions at each landing
site; and (6) study the geologic
processes for clues about the environmental conditions that
existed when liquid water was present, and whether those
environments were conducive for life. (7) say hello to my
long lost ancestors. (just kidding. or am I).

Further Confirm ECTV's Equation:
In an
article released today, scientists from Stanford University
and Lockheed Martin Laboratories affirm the need and probability
of predicting solar activity. Stanford physicists Alexander
G. Kosovichev is quoted as saying " (Solar) Flares, coronal
mass ejections and other solar activity can disable satellites
and wreak havoc on Earth - producing widespread power outages
and interrupting vital radio communications. Therefore,
predicting when solar activity will occur is a major objective
for researchers." Other scientist involved in a study
of the sun's magnetic pole reversals is Dr. Phillip H. Scherre
of Stanford University, J. R. Lemen and G. L. Slater of
the Lockheed Martin Solar and Astrophysics Laboratory in
Palo Alto, Calif.

Magnetic Shift => Shifting Ocean and Jet Stream Currents

Earlier
studies showed polarity reversal occurs at the middle of
the 11-year cycle - a period known as the ``solar maximum,``
when the number of sunspots are at their peak. Scientists
believe that sunspots - which are often accompanied by solar
flares and explosions - result when pent-up magnetic fields
generated in the dynamo finally break through the surface.
Dr. Elena
E. Benevolenskaya, a physical science research associate
at Stanford`s Experimental Physics Laboratory made the following
'Mysterious Cycle' observation; " The (solar) loops only
appeared when there were bursts of sunspot activity, which
came every 12 to 18 months during the rising phase of the
11-year cycle. This strange 12- to 18-month cycle could
have its origins in the solar dynamo inside the Sun. Two
years ago, Stanford researchers discovered that two parallel
layers of gas deep beneath the surface were mysteriously
speeding up and slowing down every 12 to 16 months. Researchers
suspect that these rotating gas layers are part of the solar
dynamo that generates the Suns awesome magnetic fields."
Hmm, mysterious indeed!
Today's
interview with Dr. Gary Sharp:
It was
as exciting and informative as I could have ever expected.
It appears there are several scientist who are tired of
the commercialism of scientific research. The stories he
told of how "El Nino" and "La Nina" were both funny and
a bit scary. The scary part is how silly and weak evidenced
associated with this event. If you can imagine a bunch of
research scientist sitting around a table slapping each
other on the back saying something to the effect of
"Ya, lets tell them it's a predictable cycle related to
equator ocean currents. Hey, lets use the old peruvian tale
of the birth of Christ. Can we get our money now".
Yes, that's
right folks, El Nino, La Nina, and my favorite...La Cucaracha,
is nothing more than what is known as Southern Pacific Oscillation.
In other words, shifting ocean stream currents.
Now for
some affirming news; Dr. Gary Sharp, Climatologist and Senior
Science advisor to NOAA (National Oceanic & Atmospheric
Administration) stated the likely hood of today's fast escalating
climate change has very little to do with humans. "It is
simply natural cycles the Earth has seen many times." Dr.
Sharp went even further saying, " Mitch, this is validation
to your published equation. The current climate change is
directly related to the Sun." Well thank you! We went
even further still to explore what is causing the Sun to
act out. It was exciting to explore the idea of what Dr.
Sharp describes as "unknown galactic energy, perhaps in
the way of plasma. There are energies flow out there we
just don't understand".
