KAIBAB NATIONAL FOREST, Ariz. (AP) -- A wildfire ignited by lightning spread over 3,000 acres of the Kaibab National Forest, but firefighters contained three smaller ones.
Authorities closed a roadway in the Pumpkin fire area, about 15 miles west of Flagstaff, and said the flames threatened a lookout and a historic cabin on Kendrick Peak.
Flames also burned late Friday near and around ranch buildings but did not reach them. No injuries were reported.
About 450 firefighters aided by aerial tankers were working the blaze.
Meanwhile, five other fires, the largest 300 to 400 acres and the others much smaller, also burned through portions of the Kaibab forest. Three of those were considered contained by late Friday, officials said.
