Foot
and Mouth Disease Shifts from India to Pakistan
|
IRNA
- A Pakistani
veterinarian on Wednesday said the foot and mouth disease
had shifted to Pakistan from India as its traces had been
found in the border areas. Dr. Syed Nasir Hussain, who recently
won Presidential Award of Nishan-e-Imtiaz for his excellent
research work, told IRNA that the disease had been communicated
through affected animals, transported to Pakistan. However,
the vet said Pakistan had effective vaccine for the disease
and could counter it. Dr. Nasir Hussain said the disease of
foot and mouth, which weakens the animals, is not transferable
to human beings. The foot and mouth disease recently affected
many parts of Europe and a large number of animal farms were
destroyed to fight the disease in many countries. However,
Dr. Nasir Hussain said the disease traced in Pakistan was
not of that magnitute which hit the Europe and it could be
tackled with by taking appropriate steps.
