One hundred thousand pilgrims are expected to attend Friday's mass near the Sea of Galilee held by Pope John Paul II.

The mass - at the site where Jesus is believed to have preached the Sermon on the Mount - is the religious climax of the Pope's tour of the Holy Land.

Hundreds of pilgrims camped out near the shores of the Sea of Galilee, awaiting his arrival.

During the day he will visit the Biblical site where followers believe Christ fed the 5,000 with loaves and fishes, and where Jesus walked on water, the Sea of Galilee.
