Official Space Weather Advisory...02/29/00
by NOAA Space Environment Center

Summary For February 21-27
Isolated R1 (minor) radio blackouts occurred on 21, 22, 24, and 26 February due to solar flares. R1 radio blackouts are associated with minor degradation of HF communications signals on the sunlit side of Earth resulting in occasional loss of radio contact for mariners and en route aviators. In addition, R1 radio blackouts degrade low-frequency navigation signals for brief intervals affecting maritime and general aviation positioning. A category G1 (minor) geomagnetic storm occurred on 24 February due to high speed solar winds. G1 storms cause minor impacts on satellite operations and weak power grid fluctuations as well as increased auroral activity at high latitudes (60 degrees).

Outlook For March 1-7
There will be a good chance for isolated R1 radio blackouts during the period with systems effects similar to those mentioned above. No geomagnetic storms or solar radiation storms are expected.

Data used to provide space weather services are contributed by NOAA, USAF, NASA, NSF, USGS, the International Space Environment Services  and other observatories, universities, and institutions.
