Official Space Weather Advisory...02/24/00
by NOAA Space Environment Center
Boulder, Colorado, USA

Summary For February 14-22

Several category R1 (minor) radio blackouts occurred during the period. A radio blackout of this magnitude causes minor degradation of HF radio and degradation of low frequency navigation signals.  Both effects are limited to the sunlit side of the Earth.  A G1 (minor) geomagnetic storm occurred on February 21.  Category G1 storms usually result in minor impacts on power grids and satellite operations as well as increased auroral activity at high latitudes.  An S1 (minor) solar radiation storm occurred on February 17.  S1 storms can cause minor impacts on HF radio in the Polar regions.

Outlook For February 23-29

There will be a good chance for isolated R1 (minor) radio blackouts for the first part of the period.  After that time, conditions should decrease to nominal.

Data used to provide space weather services are contributed by NOAA, USAF, NASA, NSF, USGS, the International Space Environment Services  and other observatories, universities, and institutions.
