NASA sent out an "Alert" today. It states a substantial magnetic storm may be on its way. Look to the sky for an active aurora tonight or tomorrow night.
No mention by NASA regarding seven continuous days of M-Class
flares. My guess...something BIG is about to happen. Not a time to panic, but
observe. Perhaps an indication of things to come. (maybe in April)
(NASA) A gust of solar wind at 1430 UT on February 24 reversed the sign of the south-pointing component of the interplanetary magnetic field. This event abruptly decreased the flow of solar plasma into Earth's magnetosphere. The resulting stress on Earth's magnetic field may have triggered a substantial magnetic substorm that was recorded by the Ultraviolet Imager on NASA's Polar satellite. Observers in Alaska, Canada, and the northern tier of US states should be on the lookout for active aurora tonight. The best time to watch will be just before local midnight. After midnight the bright gibbous moon will make faint auroral light difficult to see.
