Continued Monitoring Of California Earthquake Map

By Larry Wright

Note the flurry of earthquake activity from the San Andreas Fault east of Point Conception through to the Southern California Coast and beyond to the sea off the Mexican border.

You can begin to see the more straight line configuration of quakes from the San Andreas southward. Also note the earthquake at the extreme northern portion where the San Andreas enters the state. Also all the micro quakes occurring very near the San Andreas in central California. Looks like the two plates are lining up for a major slip action.

If deep fracturing continues in the Northridge area and connects the San Andreas from it's eastward bend near Point Conception to the fractured area just south, the bind between the tectonic plates will be gone. It is easy to see how much easier the southerly / northerly slip action between the two plates will become. Something like having the interconnecting peace of a jigsaw puzzle removed.
