The following is from the United States Geological Survey, National Earthquake Information Center: Preliminary hypocenter for earthquake of 2000 Dec 04, NEAR COAST OF CHIAPAS, MEXICO, about 90 miles (140 km) S of Tonala, Chiapas, Mexico: latitude 14.9 degrees north, longitude 93.8 degrees west, origin time 04 43 9.1 utc, depth normal, magnitude 5.7 Ms. No damage is expected.
