Heavy floods
and landslides triggered by days of incessant rains in eastern
Indonesia have killed several people and forced more than 10-thousand
to be evacuated.
The Jakarta
Post newspaper says four people have died in North Sulawesi while
10-thousand people who lost their homes in recent days are living
in squalid conditions with a lack of food and medical supplies.
The official
Antara newsagency says flash floods had also forced the evacuation
of thousands of people from their homes on the eastern island
of Sumbawa.
Tropical storms
have lashed the eastern Moluccas islands, but there were no reports
of casualties or damage.
Indonesia's
emergency services are already stretched trying to clean up after
massive floods on the western island of Sumatra late last month
that killed scores of people.
