USGS - The following is from the United States Geological Survey,  National Earthquake   Information   Center:    Preliminary   hypocenter   for earthquake of 1999  Dec  29,  SANTA  CRUZ  ISLANDS:   latitude  11.0 degrees  south, longitude 165.4 degrees east, origin time 13 29 19.2 utc, depth normal, magnitude 6.8 ms.  There have been no reports  of damage.

magnitude 5.8 mb.
