Earthquake Jolts Indian Capital

NEW DELHI, India (AP)--An earthquake shook the capital of New Delhi at midmorning Saturday, sending frightened residents fleeing their homes into the streets.

India's meteorological office said it was still trying to assess the quake's magnitude and epicenter.

It was not known immediately whether the quake caused any damage or casualties.

``I was shaken off my bed. It was so scary,'' said Inder Kumar, a resident of New Delhi's Gole Market neighborhood. Windows rattled and furniture shook.

A devastating earthquake in the western Gujarat state killed more than 20,000 people in January.
