Flood Sweeps Sheep Out to Sea Past Surfers

By PADRAIC MURPHY The Age Australia

About 200 sheep were killed in rising floodwaters near the hamlet of Breamlea, just west of Barwon Heads.

Several sheep were swept about two kilometres into the ocean at a nearby popular surf spot, Point Impossible, where they floated past surfers.

RSPCA officer Jason Nichols said he was called to the farm about noon on Monday.

"There were about 200 sheep in various states of stress," he said. "Some of them had been treading water for hours."

The Department of Agriculture arrived about 1.30pm and about 200 sheep were put down.
