Number of Rare Species of Birds Decline in Gachsaran Due to Drought

IRNA -- Drought has lowered number of certain birds such as partridges and dull-yellow partridges in Gachsaran, said Head of the Environment Protection Office in Gachsaran Abdollah Dianati here Saturday.

Dianati told IRNA that this year population of rare species of yellow-dark partridges in their habitats in this province has drastically declined. He said each yellow-dark partridges laid between about 15 to 20 eggs over the past years but the figure has declined by one third this year.

He said depletion of water in many springs of the region, including the tropical areas, have exposed tough conditions to animals. He added that number of dark-yellow partridges was estimated to be about 12,000 last year but due to drought and unauthorized hunting the figure has declined sharply.
